Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase (GGT) or Gamma-glutamyltransferase

GGT is found in kidneys and liver and catalyzes the transfer of a gamma-glutamyl group from glutathione to an amino acid. GGT levels are increased in most forms of liver disease, especially cholestasis. Unusually high levels are also found in 2 to 3% of normal, healthy subjects. Patients on anticonvulsant drugs regularly show significantly raised levels.
